Yr 9 & 10 Netball Success

AKS netball teams continued their winning run with two more victories against Rossall.

The Year 10 game was definitely one of two halves with the teams equal in the first half but AKS dominating the second to clinch the win. The team started slowly and this enabled Rossall to go into an early lead with some fast accurate netball. We struggled to keep pace with the quick movement of the Rossall team and their close, aggressive marking made getting free difficult and we could not keep possession of the ball. Rossall edged further ahead but we slowly started to find our form, enjoy some possession and get on the scoresheet. As the half progressed we improved our dodging and passing accuracy with Emily P defending well, Sally D linking attack and defence superbly and Sophie B working hard to get free and create scoring opportunities. Now matching Rossall’s work rate and scoring goal for goal we started to enjoy more possession and at the half time the scores were level at 10 – 10.

The second half saw us start much more positively and we scored two early goals with some excellent passing, team netball creating scoring opportunities which Sophie B duly converted. Lifted by this great start we gained in confidence and improved both our workrate and desire to win the ball which immediately put Rossall under pressure. Great team defence saw us frequently win back possession and with controlled, passing netball we went further ahead. As the half progressed we continued to raise our level of play and execute superb passing patterns with everyone making space and moving to get free at the correct time. Great shooting from player of the match Sophie B and Ellie B kept the score moving along and at the final whistle a superb second half performance saw us extend the lead to 21 – 11.

The Year 9 game followed a similar pattern to the year 10 one. The AKS Year 9 team were keen to maintain their season’s unbeaten record but we started the game slowly and struggled to keep possession or play with any structure. Scrappy play from both sides saw possession won and lost all too easily. Scoring opportunities were rare for both sides and at the half time break AKS were narrowly ahead 3 – 1.

The second half saw us improve both our movement and passing. Amelia C’s controlled defending made it difficult for the Rossall shooter to get close to the post and Mia W worked hard to outplay her much taller opponent. Hannah T linked our defending and attacking thirds well and with Emily T shooting accurately we gradually increased our lead to five. Now playing excellent netball we started to dominate play and enjoy a lot of possession. With everyone making space and dodging in turn we moved the ball down the court with control and accuracy and created more scoring opportunities. Ruby W worked hard to link with Emily T in our attacking circle and with both improving their conversion rate we went further ahead and at the final whistle we have forged to a 12 – 3 lead. Mia W was player of the match for her great defending and the team still remains undefeated this season.
