Musical Reflection

The Autumn Term was one of the busiest musical terms AKS has ever seen; the music department has triumphed with numerous impressive performances at a huge range of diverse events.

The many ensembles in the senior school were showcased at the ever-popular Autumn Concert. Selected soloists also performed and an impressive standard for the year ahead was set at this exciting first major event.

In November, a busy junior concert showed off the talents of our younger pupils with some super performances from Junior School soloists and ensembles, which left the large audience delighted.

Three of our senior pupils entered the Rotary Young Musician of the Year, competing against pupils from local schools. With a high standard, it was very rewarding when Florence was announced as the successful winner of the vocal category. She goes on to represent the district in the regional round in February. Good luck, Florence!

Year 7 took part in an exciting musical experience in Manchester this term. The United Learning Group had commissioned a new work by the composer Alexander l’Estrange and a large-scale concert took place at the RNCM for United Learning schools to join together in the Northern premiere of the work. AKS had a very strong presence, with our entire Year 7 singing as part of this wonderful performance.

Music has also been performed at a variety of other diverse events this term, including the Remembrance service in Lytham, the Peace event held at AKS, the St Annes’ Christmas lights switch on, the PTA Christmas Ball and the PTA Christmas Fair amongst others.

A Christmas Teatime Concert in the senior school and a Christmas Concert in the junior school got us in the festive spirit with numerous soloists and ensembles once again performing beautifully.

Our popular day of Choir in the Community saw some of the older pupils bringing festive cheer with their singing at Trinity Hospice, Highfield Day Care Centre and Fosbrooke House, as well as making an appearance at our own AKS Ladies’ Luncheon Club Christmas Lunch.

To finish the term, our traditional Service of Nine Lessons and Carols was led by the choir at St Thomas’ Church, with the y7 singers and junior choir also contributing.
An incredibly busy term for all our musicians – well done to you all!!
