    Learning to Learn

    I have always felt that learning is an emotional business. It requires a willingness to take risks, accept failure and have the tenacity to try again. It is important to understand not only the ‘what’ of learning, in our case the curriculum, but the ‘how’ and the ‘why’ as well. This week I observed a lesson called ‘Learning to Learn’, a new course in Year 7, which all pupils receive for one lesson per week. The overall objective of the course is to create more independent, active and reflective learners, who approach their work with the right mindset and motivation.

    Educate, Empower, Enable

Our first student blog of 2018 comes from some of the girls in our AKS Soroptimists Youth Group who meet on a weekly basis.  They are looking forward to their chartering ceremony on Tuesday with the Fylde Soroptimists International Group who support them in so many ways.  The group are on a mission to twin every toilet in our school by sponsoring new toilets for children in schools in developing countries.  Let’s find out why the girls have joined the Soroptimists Youth Group at AKS and what they hope to achieve: I have decided to become a member of the
