Our Planned Improvements

We are delighted that Trustees approved an investment of at least £6.2 million in AKS at their meeting on Tuesday. In so doing, Trustees have again confirmed their confidence in the future of AKS on the Fylde. We have prepared a short video giving you a taste of our current vision and you can watch this by clicking on the video below.

Admissions

Introduction

AKS admits pupils from age 2 to 18. Enquiries from prospective families are welcome at any time, and should be directed to the Admissions Offices at admissions@arnoldkeqms.com. All prospective families are encouraged to visit the school for a personal tour. Open events take place during the Autumn Term, and the dates are published in advance.

Entry Procedures

In the Senior School and, where relevant in the Junior School, entry will be subject to a satisfactory reference from the applicant's previous school. For the Senior School (Years 7-11), external applicants are admitted on the basis of their academic ability, such as will enable them to cope with the curriculum. This is measured by means of examinations in English, Mathematics and nationally standardised Non Verbal and Verbal Reasoning tests. The Senior School Entrance Examination takes place in January, for entry into Year 7 the following September.

For existing AKS pupils; which includes pupils currently attending the Arnold and KEQMS Junior Schools on their respective sites; entrance into the Senior School is automatic, provided that they have reached an appropriate level to demonstrate that they will be sufficiently able to cope with the Senior School curriculum and social environment.

Learning Support and Class Sizes

The school has a dedicated Learning Support department. In normal circumstances, class sizes will not exceed: 20 in Reception and Year 1; 22 in Years 2 to 4; 24 in Years 5 to 11; 18 in Years 12 and 13.

Financial Support

Scholarship awards represent a percentage reduction in annual fees and are not dependent upon family income. Scholarships are available for Year 7 entry in Art, Music and Sport.
Scholarship assessments take place for the above shortly before the January Entrance Examination, and a scholarship application form must be completed with additional details.
Academic Scholarships are also awarded, solely on the basis of attainment in the January Entrance Examination.

Scholarships are available for Sixth Form entry in Art, Drama, Music and Sport. Sixth Form scholarships are awarded to external candidates or internal candidates; which includes pupils currently attending the Arnold and KEQMS Senior Schools on their respective sites; who do not already have a scholarship in the respective discipline.
Scholarship assessments take place for the above in the Spring Term of Year 11, and a scholarship application form must be completed with additional details.

Assisted Places offer a maximum reduction of 85% in school fees; lunches, examination fees and other extras are charged separately. For particularly deserving pupils, additional financial support may be allocated by the Lytham Schools Foundation.

Bursaries may be awarded to parents, who suffer temporary and unforeseen financial hardship, thus preventing full payment of school fees. Clergy Bursaries are available to the children of serving clergy in the Church of England or other Christian denominations, or to those holding related posts, such as forces chaplains.
