Superb hockey by all teams against Ripley

AKS hockey teams enjoyed a superb Saturday morning of hockey with another clean sweep of wins this week against Ripley St.Thomas School, Lancaster.

 AKS U15XI  5  - 0    Ripley St.Thomas U15 XI   Scorers: Millie D (2) Farrah D (2) Sophie B     POM: Sally D & Farrah D

The U15XI played their best hockey of the term and deservedly won after a superb second half performance. We started the game on the front foot winning two early attacking corners which saw Mille D go close when her shot deflected off the post and wide.  Amelia L’s first time shot also went close minutes later and only some good corner defence from Ripley kept then scores level.  After dominating the first 15 minutes  Ripley started to enjoy more possession and only good defending from Lucy R, Rebecca H, Amy F and Amy I thwarted their attacks.  The latter period of the half was even with both sides creating chances but neither could find the net and at the break the scores were level at 0 – 0.

We started the second half as we had the first and got reward for our superb passing hockey when Sophie B converted a well worked corner routine to put us into the lead in the third minute.  Things  got even better when a superb reverse sweep shot from Mille D minutes later made it 2 – 0 . Great pressing and hassling from forwards Mille D, Amelia L and Scarlet O put the Ripley defence under constant pressure and when Farrah D picked the ball up in midfield and drove into the circle her superb shot deflected off a defenders stick and flew into the roof of the net to make it 3 – 0.  Now playing our best hockey of the term we passed the ball superbly and great work rate from midfielders Sally D, Farrah D and Sophie B saw then constantly win back possession and set up attacks. Another goal from a corner by Mille D and a second from Farrah D just before the final whistle saw us win in style 5 – 0.  This was a great result after playing excellent team hockey.  We passed the ball superbly and matched this with a fantastic work rate from all the team and the perfect way to finish before the Xmas break.

AKS  14 XI  5  -  0   Ripley St.Thomas U14 XI   Scorers: Nyah H (3) Ruby W, Ellie S    POM: Hannah T

This was another superb team performance from the U14 team. From the first whistle the passing, movement and working for each other put pressure on the opposition. Some quick and direct moves down the right allowed 3 quick goals in the first half along with some well worked short corners.  Nyah H picked up a rebound to score the first goal and after a quick shot from Ellie S that was well saved, Nyah H was again on hand to pick up the rebound for the second goal.  AKS scored a third goal before half time with a powerful shot from Ruby W.  The passing and vision from Hannah T was outstanding today and earned her the ‘player of the match’ accolade.  She was the pivot in midfield to switch the ball from one side of the pitch to the other, and she threaded some beautifully weighted passes through for the forwards to run on to which sliced the defence open.  Ellie S found the net in the second half and before the end Nyah H scored her hat-trick goal to make the final score 5 – 0.  The whole team worked extremely well today and deserved the win. Every player worked together and contributed to the team win.  The defence of Amy S, Annaleise H, Grace S and Keira B kept a clean sheet and Hattie R, Sydney G and Lily H worked hard in midfield.  Overall a superb way to finish the term not only with a win but also a superb team performance.

The U12’s enjoyed a great afternoon of hockey with over 35 girls representing the school in A, B & C team matches.

AKS U12AVIII  12  -  0  Ripley St.Thomas  U12AVIII  Scorers: Katie T (3) Olivia M(2) Laura K (2) Beth R (2) Patsy C(2), Maddison Betmead POM – Olivia Merrick

The U12A team demonstrated their talent but most of all their adaptability to play in different positions, winning their game with an impressive goal tally.  With three reserves on the side and players rotating every five minutes to allow girls the same amount of pitch time it was pleasing to see players show the ability to play in different positions without the team formation losing their shape. All the girls showed fine individual skills but particularly pleasing was the pace and timing of the pass and the running off the ball. Ripley’s defending got better and the game, especially in the second half, was not as one sided as the scoreline suggests. The U12’s are proving to have no shortage of instinctive goal scorers with the goals coming from:- Katie T (3) Olivia M(2) Laura K (2) Beth R (2), Patsy C(2)  and Maddison Betmead,

Player of the match - Olivia M voted by the opposition, but the whole team are to be commended for their outstanding performance.

 AKS U12BVIII  1  -  0 Ripley St.Thomas  U12AVIII  Scorer: Zara F POM: Maggie C & Amelie S

The B team started superbly when Zara F caught the Ripley defence napping and broke through to score in the fist minute of the game.  Ripley then started to pass the ball harder and more accurately and so only good defending from Poppy B, Amelie L and Amelie S prevented them from scoring.  We tried hard to pass the ball down the right and Kate S on the wing was a constant threat to the Ripley defence with her dynamic runs whilst Zara F and Maggie C were always waiting in the circle.  Amelie S worked tirelessly in the centre of the pitch and when Ripley did get a shot on goal Mady R was on hand to clear her lines.  In a very even game both sides had their chances to score but at the final whistle AKS were celebrating a 1 – 0 win.  Players of the match were Maggie C and Emelie S.

 AKS U12CVIII  3  -  2 Ripley St.Thomas  U12CVIII   POM: Olivia N

What a performance from the U12 C team playing a competitive match indoors against Ripley.  It was a fast and frenetic game with lots of enthusiasm and excitement. Amelie J and Esmee B-E were brilliant in defence with Zara B made some fantastic saves in goal. Summer W, Olivia N, Charlotte M and Maisie M worked well and made some crucial tackles and then driving moves forwards to put the Ripley defence under pressure.  With a large squad the AKS team rotated off and the next squad of players came on.  Again they did a fantastic job with Ava N, Kimberley W, Charley B, Martha H and  Charlotte H-P all showing off their skills.  The final score of 3-2 to AKS demonstrates a very close and well fought game.  Player of the match was Olivia N for her super silky stick skills.
