With the league title still within their grasp the Year 10 team went into the game knowing only a win would be good enough and so were grateful to Amelia L for stepping in at the last minute to ensure we had a full team at the start of the game against a dangerous St.Bedes side.
We started the game tentatively with players in slightly different positions having to adjust to new patterns of play and it was St.Bedes who scored first. We struggled to get any fluency to our play and St.Bedes marked well to force us into errors and they went further ahead. We slowly gained confidence and our movement and passing became more efficient. Farrah D started to play effectively at WA to work the ball into the circle and we got on to the scoresheet when Ellie B found the net. This goal settled the nerves and we started to find our rhythm and with Sophie B and Ellie B converting our chances well we edged ahead. Great defending by Amy I and Emily P made it difficult for the St.Bedes shooters to get free and limited them to many difficult long range shots. Ameila L grew in confidence as the half progressed and she linked well with sally D in the centre to work the ball forwards and at half time we had edged into a 10 – 5 lead. Back to our normal team at half time we started the second half confidently and scored from our first centre with a great passing move. Lifted by this start and great defending by all the team made it difficult for St.Bedes to keep possession of the ball. When we won back possession we picked up our patterns of play, with great movement and passing and worked the ball into the circle well where Ellie B and Sophie B worked well together and continued their high conversion rate and edged us further ahead with the final score being 22 – 12. This victory sees us edge closer to being joint league winners with just one final match against Carr Hill to play. Players of the match were Emily P and Farrah D.
The Year 9 team made it a winning double with an impressive result against St.Bedes. We started quickly and immediately put our opposition on the back foot. Quick, accurate passing saw us work the ball down the court at ease and create shooting opportunities that in form Ellie S duly converted to take us into an early lead. Great defending from Amelia C and Mia W made things very difficult for the St.Bedes shooters to get the ball and they frequently won back possession. Great link play from Annaleise H, Hannah T and Jenny D worked the ball into our attacking third and with Ellie S and Ruby W working well together and shooting accurately we went further ahead and at the break we had an impressive lead. The second half saw several changes of personnel but no change in our domination of the game. Superb footwork, dodging and passing by all the team saw us play excellent netball that St.Bedes had no answer for and we went further ahead. Emily T linked well with ‘Player of the Match’ Ellie S to continue to add to the score while Tara W defended well to limit St.Bedes scoring opportunities and at the final whistle the impressive 33 – 7 scoreline reflected our dominance and superb standard of play throughout the game from all ten players.
