Year 7 & Year 9 Netball win again

Y7A Netball Won 6-4 v St Bedes POM: Carys B

What a super performance from the girls and it was very satisfying to see them all learn from the previous week and work hard in training to improve. The passing was much more accurate and resulted in some lovely quick and slick passing down the court and then goals. Maddi B, Carys B and Patsy C worked tirelessly to get free and made some fantastically athletic interceptions throughout the match to win back possession. The shooters Lucy B, Amelie S, Amelie L and Patsy C all made some excellent well timed dodges to get free and then execute a shot. Olivia M and Beth R tightly marked and made sure they got the rebounds then distributed the ball out of defence and into attack. Well played girls and thank you to all the parents for their support. Special mention to Emily R in Y11 who umpired both games and was superb, also being complimented by the opposition. Player of the match: Carys B - for her agility and fantastic reactions, intercepting a number of times in defence to win back possession of the ball.

Y7B Netball Drew 3-3 v St Bedes POM: Charlotte M

This really was a brilliant game and both teams made huge progress as the game developed. AKS had a new team with both Charley B and Ella H having never played a netball match before. However, both girls gave their all in the game despite their inexperience and it was great to see both their levels of confidence and skill increase throughout the game. Zara F, Laura K and Charlotte M worked incredibly hard in the centre court linking some lovely quick passing moves to get the ball into the circle. Due to a last minute injury to Katie T, the players had to rotate round and play shooter which for some was not a familiar position. All credit to the girls especially Anna P and Charlotte M for giving it a really good go. Lucy P in her first match for the B team worked extremely hard in both attack and defence. She showed a lovely quick turn of pace when dodging and made some excellent accurate passes. A fantastic team performance. Well done girls. POM- Charlotte Middleton for being a versatile team player and demonstrating she can play in any position for the team! Her footwork and dodging skills were sound and extremely effective.

 Year 9 Netball vs Lytham Won 18 - 7 POM: Amelia C

AKS U14A Netball team started their league campaign in great style with a great win against local rivals LSA.  AKS took control of the game early on and had some great passages of play, moving the ball around the court well. Great defending from Amelia C and Mia W made the Lytham shooters have to work hard to create any shooting opportunities and when they won back possession great link play from Hannah T in the centre moved the ball into our attacking third. Good movement in the circle from Ruby W and Ellie S saw us create chances and with good shooting we were in the lead as we made their way into half time.  AKS continued to dominate as the second half began, however as they began to give LSA more space they put under more pressure defensively which Amelia C dealt with extremely well.  Good accurate passing and efficient dodging from everyone saw us score from a lot of our possession and at the final whistle we had extended our lead to 18 – 7.Amelia C was voted ‘player of the match’ for her cool, efficient defending.

Year 9 B Netball vs Lytham Lost 6 - 8  POM: Grace S

The U14B Netball team started their game with great confidence and took the game to LSA.  They were on top quickly, passing and moving well and continued in this manner as half time approached to go into the break just ahead.  LSA came into the second half with enthusiasm and raising their game and forcing AKS to defend.  LSA continued to put them under pressure and with some accurate shooting were able to take edge ahead with a final score of 8-6.  It was a very even and well played game. Player of the match was Grace S for her excellent defending.
