Y7 Netball enjoy a Winning Start to the Season
After the first half of the term training hard the AKS Yr 7 netball teams have enjoyed a busy start to their competitive season with four games and a number of victories.

U12A Netball v Carr Hill School   Won 8-1     POM Lucy B and Olivia M

The Year 7 netball team made an excellent start to the season in their first game against Carr Hill School. Two very well matched teams played a furiously fast paced game. It was an end to end game with both teams having chances to score but the ball just did not find the net. What was very pleasing to see was the work done in training being put into the game situation. The defence of Beth R and Olivia M worked extremely hard to win back possession and with the help of Carys B, worked the ball well out of defence and into attack. Maddi B worked hard as centre and linked well between defence and attack. Amelie L fed the ball with some quick and accurate passing in to the circle. The shooters movement was decisive and both Lucy B and Amelie S shot well under pressure and managed to react quickly to get the rebounds. For the first game this was an excellent team performance and is very promising for the season. Player of the match: Lucy B for her superb shooting technique and timing of the dodge to receive the ball. Olivia M for her brilliant interceptions, close marking and powerful passes.

U12B Netball AKS v Carr Hill School     Won 4-1    POM Patsy C and Anna P

What a fantastic performance by the Year 7 B team girls for their very first match. The enthusiasm and work rate was superb and the whole team worked hard in both their attacking and defending roles. It was an excellent opportunity to see all the girls play in a variety of positions. In defence Anna P, Poppy B and Eloise B made sure the opposition did not get the ball into the attacking circle and their dodging into space allowed the ball to safely move from the defensive circle and up the court. Bronte C, Patsy C, Olivia N and Katie T all demonstrated good footwork and their ability to get quickly into the attacking circle to shoot. Charlotte M was an excellent captain and also played centre, dodging well into space to receive the ball and distributing the pass quickly and accurately down the court. Player of the match: Patsy C for her flexibility in playing a shooter and then in defence. Footwork and passing skills were excellent. Anna P marked closely and made some brilliant interceptions to win back possession.

U12A Netball  v St Marys Hall  Lost 3-16           POM: Maddi Betmead

This was a tough game against a very athletic and skilful opposition who played at a very fast pace. AKS had to learn very quickly and I am very proud of the way they adapted and increased the speed of their game in only their second match. The speed of their decision making and the timing of the dodge to secure possession was definitely the biggest area for improvement in this game. The work rate and effort of all the girls was superb throughout the game but St Mary's Hall were a superior team. In the 3rd quarter the team managed to draw 2 goals all and this was by far their best period of netball. Slick passing and well timed dodges allowed the ball to get to the shooters and the girls marked closely. Player of the match: Madi B who worked tirelessly in the centre position and her interceptions were athletic and her passing accurate.

U12B Netball  v St Marys Hall       Lost 3-4                  POM Georgina B  and Katie T

There was great excitement for many of this team as it was their first ever AKS netball match. The team started with lots of energy and the match was played at a furious pace. Both teams passed the ball nicely down the court and into the attacking circle but just could not quite get the shots on target. Scarlett D and Georgina B showed good awareness in the defending circle and made some crucial interceptions. Bronte C, Laura K and Zara F worked hard in the centre court positions to get the ball into attack. Katie T and Leila S linked up well to get the ball into the attacking circle and shoot. At half time it was extremely close with St Mary's Hall winning 2-0. The final score of 4-3 to St Mary's Hall reflects a very close game. Players of the match were Georgina B for her close marking and some superb interceptions and Katie T for her excellent dodging and athleticism around the court.
