A change of day from the traditional Thursday to Tuesday certainly put the AKS Year 10 team off their stride as they struggled to find their recent good form against a strong Lytham side. Having narrowly beaten Lytham in the first outing of the season we knew we were going to have a tough game and so it proved to be. We started poorly giving possession away from our first centre and before we knew it Lytham were five goals ahead. We did start to enjoy some possession and got into a rhythm with great defence from Farrah D winning the ball back and Sohpie B and Ellie B working well in the circle which saw us close the gap to just two goals. Lytham’s County players then started to pass and move at speed and we struggled to stop them scoring from their centre passes and at half time the score was 5 – 10.
After the break Lytham raised their game again and played superb, fast controlled netball which put us under constant pressure and they punished any mistakes we made. Emily P worked hard to make life difficult for Lytham’s county shooter and Rebecca H frequently won back possession but a lack of the structured play and composure of recent weeks saw us regularly give the ball back to Lytham and they duly scored to edge further ahead. There were glimpses of the accurate passing netball that we have played over the last few games with players moving and linking well but at the final whistle the score was 10 – 22 to Lytham. Players of the match were Emily P and Farrah D for their work rate in defending throughout the game. The Year 10 return to action on Thursday and hopefully back to the levels of netball we have shown early in the term and hopefully back to winning ways!
