Another great Saturday morning of hockey with 5 wins against Westholme

It was another superb morning of hockey for the AKS teams as for the third week in a row all teams remained undefeated with five wins against Westholme School, Blackburn.

AKS U15 XI  8  - 0  Westholme U15XI  Scorers: Sophie B(2) Millie D Farrah D Lucy R Sally D Scarlet O        POM Farrah D

AKS U15XI had an excellent match on Saturday against Westholme School which saw them score 8 without reply. They took control of the game early on, putting Westholme under pressure defensively and we went ahead with a well placed shot by Millie D into the left corner.  Westholme took a back foot as a wave of goals were scored before half time.  Farrah D driving through at the top of the D and striking the ball.  A lovely passage of attacking play taking the ball down the right hand side, then being slipped to the penalty spot for Sophie B to finish.  As AKS went into half time they were 4-0 in the lead.  The second half continued as the first had finished.  A strong drive down the right hand side and a pass across the D found Sophie B in the centre and she swept the ball into the goal to increase the lead.  Lucy R finished another attacking move from a long corner and Sally D blocked the ball coming out of Westholme's defensive D and took advantage of the space with a well placed shot.  The score line finished at 8-0 with Scarlet O slotting the final goal in from the left post before the final whistle. Player of the Match was Farrah D for her forceful, dominating play.

 AKS U14st XI    9  - 1  Westholme U14XI  Scorers: Nyah H (2), Hattie R (2),  Ruby W(2) Hannah T(2)   Ellie S (1),            POM Whole Team

The U14 team were riding high after qualifying for the U14 Regional competition earlier on in the week and they started very confidently. Within a few minutes the first goal came from the ball being driven down the right hand side and crossed in. The quick passing, movement off the ball and skill levels were just too superior for the Westholme team and the AKS team went on to score 9 goals. The team kept up the pressure and won several penalty corners. It was great to see the hard work done in training being transferred in to a match situation as several goals were scored from very well worked and slick routines. I want to thank this group of girls for their commitment and enthusiasm so far this term. The improvement is noticeable and they are working hard in training to continue to make progress. Thanks as always to the parents for their support on the sidelines. The whole team deserved player of the match today because of their attitude and willingness to play as part of a team. Again many of the players were asked to play in different positions but they just got on and adapted to the changes.

AKS U13 XI   2  - 0  Westholme U13XI Scorers: Millie B, Eleanor L  POM Ziv W & Freya W

After a great start to 11 a side hockey last week the U13 team built on their first performance with a superb display against Westholme.  We started well attacking at pace down the right with Alicia I linking well with Preesha R. She used her pace to beat the defence and her pass found Poppy B in the centre whose shot was well saved by the keeper. We continued to dominate play attacking well down the right but Westholme were always dangerous on the break. We were rewarded for our attacking intent in the 14th minute when more good play saw the ball worked down the right and across the goal to find Mille B on the left post and she scored to make it 1 – 0. We had a wake-up call minutes later when a breakaway saw Westholme find a free player in the circle but a great save from Felicity F-W maintained our lead. Great work in midfield by Poppy B, Alicia I and Gabriella F constantly won back possession for us and we went further ahead in the last action of the half with a superb corner strike from Eleanor L that found the corner to take us into the break 2 – 0 ahead. The second half saw us play some excellent attacking, passing hockey with Preesha R rampant on the wing and Ziv W always a threat infront of goal. Improved defensive marking and awareness by Freya W and Eleanor L limited the Westholme chances but when they did have opportunities Felicity F-W was on hand to keep the ball out of the net. Before the final whistle we almost had a third goal when another great run and cross from Preesha R found Millie B on the left of the goal but her great first time shot hit the post and deflected wide. At the final whistle the girls were celebrating not only an excellent team performance but also their first deserved 11-a-side victory. Players of the Match were Ziv W for her attacking threat and Freya W for her excellent defending.

AKS U12 A VIII   1  -  0  Westholme U12A VIII   Scorers:  Katie T  POM Beth R

The team started the game in attacking mood and won several corners in the first five minutes but great goalkeeping by the Westholme keeper  kept the scores level.  We continued to dominate possession with Beth R, Olivia M and Maddison B winning the ball back and passing forwards to create scoring chances but again we could not find the corners of the goal and the keeper continued to keep the ball out. Westholme did give us a scare late in the half when they broke through our defence but a good save from Scarlet D in goal kept us on level terms into the break.

The second half followed the way of the first with AKS enjoying a lot of the ball and creating lots of scoring opportunities but the impressive Westholme keeper kept the ball out of the net. Late in the game however Katie T finally found the corner of the goal to break the deadlock after great work from Olivia M and Maddison B. Despite more pressure and several corners we could not add any further goals and at the final whistle we had to settle for victory by just one goal 1 – 0. Player of the Match was Beth R for her excellent work in both attack and defence.

 AKS U12 B VIII    5  - 0  Westholme U12 B VIII   Scorers: Carys B (3) Zara F Ava n    POM Summer  W & Amelie L

We started the game well with great attacking play from Zara F, and Carys B. Great defending by everyone saw us win back the ball constantly and by dominating possession of the ball we created a number of chances and Carys B scored twice to take us into the break 2 – 0 ahead.

The second half started with a period of scrappy play with neither team using the width of the pitch preferring to pass through the crowded centre. We gradually improved and started to use the right side with great effect thanks to good play from Summer W and Carys B and in the 7th minute Carys B scored her hat-trick goal to make it 3 -0. Zara F made it 4 – 0 and in the last minute Ava N scored to make the final scoreline 5 – 0. Players of the match were Amelie L and Summer W.
