AKS U14 hockey team are celebrating finishing runners-up in the Lancashire Tournament and qualifying for the North West Semi-Finals after playing superbly.
The U14 team were well prepared and raring to go for the Nationals tournament at Stanley Park and they faced a tough first game against a very strong Kirkham Grammar team. AKS battled incredibly hard and were put under a lot of pressure by the opposition, but in the last couple of minutes despite superb defending Kirkham scored to win 1-0. Sydney G in goal was amazing and played a huge part in keeping the score to just one goal.
The performance in the first game really got the AKS U14 team fired up and they went on to play superb team hockey to beat Stonyhurst 2-0. Great attacking work down the right hand side saw Ruby W dispatch the cross for the first goal. In the second half a slick passing move saw Nyah H score the second goal to pick up our first points of the tournament. Rossall were the opponents in the third game and again this was a 2-0 win with goals from Ellie S scoring in the first half after an inspired tactical move by Miss D, and Nyah H in the second half.
The fourth game against Ripley saw us play our best hockey of the day. The team really passed the ball around and 3 goals were scored, 2 by Ellie S and one by Ruby W. The final game was against Lytham High School and this was a competitive game particularly as both teams had worked hard all afternoon and legs were tiring. However, the AKS team let the ball do the work with some quick early passes and won the game 3-0, with goals from Nyah H and Prisha R. This was a fantastic squad effort and the team work and effort was superb all day. Many thanks to Mrs Hanham for umpiring. Good luck to the girls in the next regional round on Tuesday 7th November.
