Mark Twain famously said, “Golf is a good walk spoiled” but on Monday 26th June 2017 at Lytham Green Drive Golf Club, the AKS Golf Championship told a completely different story.
Twelve boys competed for the annual recognition of becoming AKS Championship Golfer of the Year. It was a beautiful day with a light breeze but warm. Nervous faces circled the first tee as the first group drove off. After nine holes, three players had a share of the lead, Mitchell N, Harry R and James L, scoring a creditable 47 shots each. With three holes to play, James L had forged ahead and held his nerve to hold a six foot put on the seventeenth to win the title. Harry R finished second and Mitchell N third.
It has been a very successful season of golf at AKS. My thanks, in particular go to our resident golf professional, Chris Holt who tirelessly coached the boys and girls. Harry Redman proved to be an excellent ambassador for AKS Golf.
Here is to next year when we will try to develop AKS Golf further.

"If you watch a game, it's fun. If you play it, it is recreation. If you work at it, it's golf."
