It has been an action packed and successful week for the AKS rounders teams winning 5 , drawing one and losing 3 games in three Fylde & Wyre League fixtures.
The Year 8 team are still on track to take the league title with good wins against Carr Hill 22 .5 to 15.5, thanks to some excellent fielding and Lytham in a much closer game 16.5 to 13.5 thanks to some excellent hitting. However a lack luster performance in the return fixture against Carr Hill saw them beaten for the first time by the narrowest of margins, half a rounder, 14.5 to 14. A disappointing fielding display in the first fielding innings allowed Carr Hill to score 8.5 rounders. Passive fielding and inaccurate throwing allowed Carr Hill to turn half rounders into full ones and so build up their total. Our first batting innings saw us struggle to get the ball past the well placed Carr Hill fielders and we had to settle for half rounders with only Nyah H managing to get all the way round the track and so at the break we were behind 8.5 to 6.5. Carr Hill got their second innings off to a good start scoring a rounders from their first hit but we then improved our fielding and limited their scoring opportunities. A great catch by Amy S, in her first league game and good fielding by Ruby W kept the score down and we went into bat knowing we had to score 9 rounders to win. Jenny D started the innings well scoring from her first hit but more efficient Carr Hill fielding limited us to half rounders. With time running out we continued to edge closer to the required total but when last batsman was called we we still need at least half a rounder off the last ball. Amy S made a good contact but when the ball fell straight to 2nd post she easily stopped us scoring and the game finished with us just falling short of the 14.5 we needed with 14 rounders. Amy S was player of the match for her excellent catch and scoring in her debut league game.
The year 7 also enjoyed two wins in their three games. They proved too good for Carr Hill winning both games the first, 17.5 to 12.5 and did even better in the second winning by an even greater margin 18 – 7. The game against Lytham High, however saw Lytham win 13.5 to 10.
The Year 9 team had three very close games and honours were even with a win, a loss and a draw. The first match against Carr Hill proved to be the closet with the final score being 17 rounders each. The return fixture saw AKS play superbly well in the first innings to dominate the match but Carr Hill had the better of the second innings edging ahead to win by two rounder 15.5 to 17.5. The match against Lytham was also very close with AKS edging infront to win 17 to 16.5
