This term Year 11 pupil Mollie M has had the difficult task of balancing her GCSE exam revision with her hockey as she has continued to attend regular training camps as part of the England U16 squad in Reading, St.Albans, and Loughborough as well as doing her individual fitness and technique sessions at AKS.
Having had her first international experience at Easter in a tough test series away in Holland Mollie was keen to gain further selection and this week she is celebrating being selected for all three of the remaining England U16 competitions of the season.
After her final GCSE examination Mollie will attend a final training day at Nottingham before the first of the three competitions, a test series against Germany U16 in Hamburg. Mollie will be one of the 18 player squad that will travel to Hamburg at the end of June where they will have several training sessions and three matches against the strong Germany U16 side.
The following weekend the squad will host visitors Belgium at Canterbury and Mollie has again been selected as part of the squad to play the Belgium side three times over the 4 day camp.
The finale of the season, and no doubt the highlight of the year, is in July when Mollie will head out to Barcelona where the England U16 will play in the European 6 Nations tournament. This tournament sees the best junior sides in Europe come together and is played in two sections with winners and runners progressing to semi - finals and finals where the medals are decided. Mollie will no doubt hope that the team will bring home a medal and that it will be the first of many.
Mollie’s selection for these final three events is a fitting reward for all her hard work, on and off the pitch and sees her taking another step up the international hockey ladder. Well done Mollie!
