After good performances at the start of the term the AKS U13 athletics team started the second half of the term by participating in the B Semi-Final of the National Schools Cup Competition in Warrington. Despite difficult weather conditions there were some impressive performances no more so than in the 1500m where Jenny D ran a seasons best time of 5m47.7 whilst ahead of her and just 0.4s outside her own school record was Poppy B whose 5m 24.4 scored the teams best points score with 21 points. The 800m was another great event with Gabriella F scoring 16 points for her time of 2m 55.5 and Noah H adding a further 12 points for her time of 3m 06.4. Hattie Ross ran a seasons best in the hurdles clocking 14.7s
In the field events pride of place goes to Ruby W in the discus whose throw of 16.57m scored 15 whilst the high jump there was a seasons best for Prisha R who jumped 1.17m to add 13 points the team total. Tara W jumped well in the long jump getting close to the 4m mark with a leap of 3.93m whilst in the shot Kiera K putt 6.46m.
The overall team score of 251 points put us in 7th place overall but with a number of athletes being in Year 7 and eligible for the event next year the future looks bright on the athletics scene at AKS.
