It was another great day on the athletics scene for the AKS girls as they competed in the Fylde &Wyre Combined Events Championships and came away in third place in both the Year 8 and Year 9 events. The event sees every competitor taking part in a sprint, a jump, a throw and the 800m with points being awarded for their performance. The overall individual winner is the athlete who scores the most points from the four events whilst the team competition sees the top four individual scores counting towards final positions.
Individual honours go to Year 8 Hannah T who won the silver medal as overall runner-up with a superb points total of 257 for her four events just 7points behind the winner . Hannah ran a season’s best in the hurdles of 13.7s and jumped 4.02m in the long jump to bag 71pts and claim 3rd spot in each category and with an 800m time of 2m45s (68pts) and a shot putt of 4.66m (47pts) she secured overall runners-up spot. Poppy B also performed superbly in the 800m where she broke the school 800m record set by Gabriella F only a week ago with a superb time of 2m 32 sec
The Year 8 competition saw a large number of 15 Year 8 and 7 girls take part and there were some notable performances. Jenny D ran a superbly paced 800m to clock a personal best time of 2m42s and secure 69 points and she backed this up with an excellent 100m (14.3s/63pts) and long jump (3.82m/65pts). Ellie S jumped a superb long jump of 4.00m (71pts) and Gabriella F set another personal best in the 800m with a time of 2m46s.The Year 8 team finished a superb 3rd position out of nine schools with a total of 955pts.
In the Year 9 event Sophie B was our top performer with 262 points thanks to two seasons bests one in the 200m where her time of 28.6 scored 72 points while her 800m time of 2 min 45sec improved her own PB by four seconds. A good shot putt of 6.24m (63pts) and long jump of 3.68 m (60pts) saw her totaling an impressive final total for 6th place overall. Millie Duncan also ran seasons best in the 100m clocking 14.5s and she impressed in the long jump where her leap of 3.84m scored 66 points. Farah D impressed in the shot with a putt of 6.82m (69points) and a long jump of 3.71m (61pts) whilst Emily P also scored 61 points for her shot putt of 6.07m. Overall the team finished a creditable 3rd in the team competition with a total of 949 points .
