The sunshine was the perfect weather for tennis and the wonderful surroundings at Giggleswick School provided the perfect setting for the first Year 9 Tennis match of the year
The A team had a superbly close game and after the nine sets of tennis the scores were level at 4 ½ each. The top seeded player Malika led by example with two wins against Giggleswick 2nd ( 5 – 1) and 3rd couples (6 – 1). Good serving and groundstrokes saw her dominate both games but despite some good play against Giggleswick top pair she lost 1 – 4. Second couple Sophie B and Rebecca H also defeated the opponents’ second pair and had a close match against their third finishing level at 4 games each. Third couple Olivia M and Amelia L improved as the matches progressed gaining greater consistency of both their groundstrokes and serve and after defeats against Giggleswick’s top two pairs they won against their own couple 4 – 3.
The inexperienced B team took to the court with many playing their first competitive tennis match. Mille D and Farrah D combined well and improved as the match progressed. Defeats against the Giggleswick top two pairs were followed by a 4 – 2 win against the third pair to get us a point on the board. Lucy R and Lucy P combined as the second pair and they too defeated the Giggleswick third couple 3 – 0. Despite not winning any of their sets third couple Emily P and Scarlet progressed immensely as they played more games with their serves gaining more consistency and their ground stokes more power.
Overall a superb day of tennis enjoyed by everyone.
