The netball season at AKS came to the perfect end with impressive wins for the Senior, Year 8 & Year 7 teams against local rivals Rossall.
With senior netball flourishing at AKS two teams hosted Rossall in the last match of the season and it was honors even with one win a piece. The A team started their game well with AKS passing and moving well to work the ball into our attacking circle where Jess S and Mercedes E duly converted to take us into an early lead. Rossall made us work hard in the centre of the court but great marking by Molly T, Millie K and Libby B made it difficult for them to gain any fluency to their play. We continued to play with accuracy and speed through the court and with Jess S and Mercedes E working well in the circle Rossall struggled to stop or flow of goals and we went further ahead. At the other end of the court superb defending from Amelia J and Megan C saw many of the Rossall attacks intercepted and at the final whistle the score was an impressive 21 – 10 victory and the perfect finish to superb season.
The B team had a number of players in different positions and hence took a while to gain any accuracy and fluency to their play. Rossall took advantage of our indecision and took an early lead. We slowly gained in both confidence and started to play some good netball and gradually closed the gap on the scoresheet. As the game progressed the standard of our netball improved and despite the final score-line of 7 – 16 all the girls can be proud of how well they played and can look forward to continuing with their Senior netball next season.
After winning the Wyre and Fylde Netball League by remaining undefeated all year it was a great end to the netball season for the Year 8 A team with yet another victory this time Rossall being our opponents. With a squad of 25 girls attending training A, B and C team have played regular fixtures and the girls have been a credit to themselves, competing hard and putting many skills and tactics learnt throughout the seasons into practice.
We started the game strongly and put Rossall on the back foot from the first whistle. Quick, accurate passing and great dodging from Jenny D, Hannah , Annaleise H and Hattie R saw us always have outlet passes which enabled us to work the ball down the court easily. Good shooting from Ellie S and Ruby W converted our chances and we took an early lead. Rossall did get the ball into our defending third but great teamwork and defending by Tara and Mia W made it very difficult for the Rossall shooters and we frequently regained possession. After an impressive first half we went into the half-time break comfortably in the lead. The second half went the way of the first with us dominating both possession and scoring and at the final whistle the team were celebrating a superb 28 – 4 win.
The Year 7 team also finished the season on a high with a comprehensive win. The start of the game was even with both teams gaining and losing possession too easily and struggling to gain any momentum to their play. We, however, were quickest to settle and we improved both our passing accuracy and dodging to go into a narrow lead. Ziv W defended superbly and with excellent play from Gabriella F and Phoebe M –C we enjoyed more of the ball and extended our lead into the break. In the second half Rossall defenders improved and made it difficult for us to add to the score but Preesha R and Eleanor L continued to work hard to defend and get free when needed. We again raised our level of play and started to play some excellent netball which saw us extend our lead so at the final whistle the score was a rewarding 12 – 5.
