U11 Girls win Budge Invitational Tournament
Recently our U11 girls travelled to Rossall for their first tournament of the hockey season. Having played well in recent games they were confident of competing well.
The girls first game was against Rossall. After a fairly even start to the match, AKS began to dominate and the dynamic duo of Carly and Charlotte down the right began to find space and create chances for the team. Three of Carly’s crosses were finished by Jessie (2) and Lucy to give us a winning start.
Next match up was against Kirkham Grammar and this proved to be a close but crucial game for us. Anna and Olivia had to defend well at times but once again Carly and Jessie caused problems for the Kirkham defence. Their keeper played well to stop us from scoring but a quickly taken hit from the sideline eventually fell to Carly in the D and she scored our winning goal. Our next two games were comfortable wins. We defeated Alderley Edge 6-0 (Lucy, Jessie 3, Carly 2) and Abbeygate College 7-0 (Charlotte, Jessie 3, Lucy 3).
The final match was to be the decider against a strong Queen’s Chester side who had also won all of their games. We had to defend for long periods of the game but we did so superbly. Knowing that a draw would win us the tournament Madison, in goals, had little to do as Olivia, Lucy and Anna put in tackle after tackle to deny the Queen’s team any real chances. A 0-0 draw was enough to ensure we finished the tournament as winners.
This was a great achievement on the day and we look forward to more tournaments as the season progresses.
