Last Saturday was Open Day at AKS Lytham; an opportunity for people to come and see what makes our school the leading independent school in the area. It was an extremely busy day with lots of visitors and prospective families discovering the rich history and traditions of the school, as well as the diverse learning opportunities and the highest standard of facilities to enable every child to thrive.
The AKS student guides were in constant demand and thoroughly enjoyed showing our many guests around their school and were proud to answer any questions and to share their unique perspectives. Some of the highlights of the day were: The Science Department, with flying rockets and a balls of fire; the enchanting Music Department, where the many ensembles and practitioners could be observed rehearsing and demonstrating their skills; the Drama Department, who showcased the student produced and performed ‘Sub Zero,’ a tribute to Robert F Scott and his courageous men; a Combined Cadet Force field display; and a wide-arrange of sports in our two sports halls and on the sports fields. Mr. Walton, the AKS headmaster, gave an informative presentation in the Senior School Hall, and was well-supported by Georgia and Sam, the current head students, plus four Year 7 students, who shared their excitement of their first few weeks in the AKS senior school.
A common message throughout the day was ‘discovery’ and exploring ‘why’ AKS is so successful at what it achieves for each individual student. All visitors were encouraged to visit the 12 ‘discovery’ zones, collect stamps and find out how being a Round Square global member school allows us to continue to deliver and develop the best of character education. We also welcomed many community partners and friends of AKS who we work with throughout the school year, these included: the LSA Classical Association, founded by an AKS student and who is now studying at Oxford; the Wildlife Trust; and Fylde Soroptimists, who are all working closely with the school in supporting our wellbeing and enrichment programmes. There were also spooky treats in the dining hall, where the outstanding AKS catering team put on another fantastic show.
AKS welcomes visitors at any time throughout the year, you can book a private tour, taster day or just pop-in for a visit, more information can be found on our website: www.arnoldkeqms.com
