Last week Year 5H performed their class assembly to the whole school, their parents and other relatives. The assembly was titled ‘Figurative Language’, and was, as you would guess, all about the different forms of figurative language. The assembly was based around our Year 5 work on this in English lessons.
The main superhero characters ‘Metaphor Man’ and ‘Simile Girl’ talked us through the assembly with our excellent narrators. A selection of music videos including ‘Life is a Rollercoaster’ and ‘My Heart is a Stereo’ were used alongside humorous sketches about ‘Raining Cats and Dogs’ and an untidy teenager to explain things in more detail. Some children wrote, learned and performed some delightful and funny simile poems and the final sketch included Mr Hodgkinson (class pupil) telling lots of children off using idioms. One of the pupils, who happened to be called Rodney, was sent to Mr Briers for not doing his homework. The children enjoyed chorusing ‘What a plonker Rodney is!’
The children had a great time learning and performing the poem and enjoyed entertaining their audience to start off Friday on a positive note.
Well done 5H!
