AKS Lytham unveils the new Pavilion Café
with gripping match between teachers and parents
On Sunday 21 May AKS Lytham celebrated the grand opening of its new Pavilion Café with an enthralling match between the Headmaster’s XI made up of parents, alumni and friends of AKS and Teachers’ XI in front of a crowd of over 400 people.
The new Café has been built to offer friends and family the opportunity to relax, sample refreshments and watch the fantastic sports on offer at AKS Lytham. The school is incredibly grateful for the funding provided by: Lytham Schools Foundation; the Arnold School Development Fund; AKS PTA; Old Arnoldians (for the two Pavilion clocks); and the Sri Lanka Cricket Tour Parents’ Committee (for funding the new scoreboard). The creation of the Pavilion continues the on-going investment in resources at the school with a total of over £9 million invested in the last five years.
Headmaster, Mike Walton said, “The Pavilion Café offers a great resource for the school community – a place to meet, relax and enjoy the fantastic sport on display at our school. It underlines the commitment the school and its wider family are making to ensure that we have the best facilities in the area, enabling pupils to make the most of their talents in whatever areas they may be”.
The match itself went down to the last ball with the Teachers' XI winning by one run on the very last ball of the match. The final score was: Headmaster’s XI 117,
Teachers’ XI 118.
Winning captain, Mr McIntyre said, “It is fabulous to see the support of our school community in helping make our vision for the future of the school a reality. The fundraisers have done a superb job in updating our sporting facilities and we couldn’t be more proud of winning the inaugural match. Well done to everyone that has taken part”.
The Café is now open everyday and at most school sporting events for use by all.
