Babies Go Overboard
Last week the drama studio opened its doors to professional Theatre Company, Horse and Bamboo and their piece of family theatre Babies Overboard. The story tells the tale of a young dolphin that is trapped in the waterworks and is trying to make its way back home. During the show audiences go on a sensory journey through the river and under the sea. AKS students were fortunate enough to get ‘on board’ with this incredible project through an opportunity presented to us by Alex O’Toole of Fable Arts; they formed their very own front of house team. Informed by the River Ribble Trust and the Love my Beach campaign, students help to deliver the message of how precious water is and how everyone has a duty to be more environmentally friendly.

Here are some comments from the @AKSDrama students:

“I enjoyed working with professionals, learning about the workings that goes on behind the scenes when putting on a show.” Abe C – Year 9

“It was a great opportunity to work with students from other years and make new friendships.” Isabella G – Year 10

“I valued the Q&A session with the professionals. It was interesting and eye opening to discover the different backgrounds they had within the industry. It made me think maybe having my own theatre company is the way I want to go!” Georgia FW – Year 11

“I had never seen a piece of children’s theatre before, it was great to see the children really enjoying themselves and getting stuck in.” Bethany B – Year 10

“There was a great message behind the play and I learnt a lot.” Florence B – Year 10

“I learnt a lot about environmental sciences through my involvement with this project. I also really enjoyed seeing how the children developed in confidence after having seen the show” Lucy P – Year 9

“Working on this project was a great opportunity, it allowed me to take on new responsibilities and will be something I can put on my CV.” Megan C – Year 12

“I really enjoyed being able to see the show and the different techniques the theatre company used. It gave me some ideas for my GCSE practical piece.” Emily H – Year 10
